One of the things I like to do when I have the free time is to explore the different parks and natural areas in Mississauga. This morning I decided to take a stroll around Osprey Marsh in Lisgar and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how serene and peaceful the area is. Osprey Marsh is located just north of the intersection of Ninth Line and Britannia Rd W and if you aren’t from the area, there’s a good chance you wouldn’t even know it existed.
Osprey Marsh is a series of man made storm water management ponds that were originally built to control the amount of water going into the sewers and reduce flooding. Just like Lake Wabukayne in Meadowvale, Osprey Marsh has become a haven for birds and other wildlife.
A few years ago, the Lisgar Resident’s Association in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mississauga-Meadowvale (a group that I’m proud to be a member of), received a Trillium grant from the Province of Ontario to make improvements to the area and help protect the environment. The grant was a huge success and the project contributed a number of improvements including a new path, park benches and interpretative signs to educate residents about the area’s history and wildlife.
When you stroll along the path you can’t help but become more relaxed, it’s a nice place to escape the confines of the city.
I must say that I had a great time on my walk today at Osprey Marsh. It’s a beautiful area to visit and if you would like to know more about what its like to live in the area check out my Osprey Neighbourhood page and next time you’re in the area I highly recommend you take the time to visit it!
