Are you looking to make a difference this holiday season?
Starting next month, many hungry families across Mississauga will receive a two-kilogram ham, with the fixings, courtesy of two local agencies, Rotary Club of Mississauga – Meadowvale and The Mississauga Food Bank.
The Rotary Club and other community groups will be asking donors to buy a hamper for $25, which will then be distributed with other food staples through The Mississauga Food Bank’s network. The goal is to give out 1,000 hams to hungry families during the holiday season.
I think this is a great way to give back to the local community, and it’s easy to do. Just one donation of $25 will provide a full meal to a family in need during the holiday season.
“Meat is always one of our clients’ most-needed items,” says Chris Hatch, The Mississauga Food Bank’s Executive Director. “This partnership with Rotary Meadowvale will help us deliver some excellent protein-rich food to hungry families in Mississauga. I know it will make a great difference to those families over the holiday season.”
For families that don’t eat ham for religious reasons, the The Mississauga Food Bank will substitute a turkey for a ham, so no family will be left out. The important thing is that the families are receiving a high quality source of protein, something that is in short supply as most people usually donate non perishable goods.
