During a workout program we all tend to focus on our workouts, however in reality it’s what we eat and what we don’t eat, counts for 80% of our success.
In order to reach my goal of cutting out starchy and sugary foods, while at the same time adding more green and high protein foods, I need to get creative. On top of that throw in eating smaller meals more frequently and things get complicated. To help me get the job done, here are the Food Prep Appliances I’ve been using during My 12 Week Fitness Challenge:
Blendtec Blender
This blender is our workhorse, and worth every penny of the $350 we spent. I know it’s a bit on the pricey side, but if you’re serious about smoothies and use your blender daily, it’s cheaper in the long run to go for quality. If you go for a cheaper $100 blender don’t be surprised if the motor burns out after a few months. The Blendtec makes a mean smoothie!
Macerator Juicer
Stephanie and I started juicing about 3 months ago and so far, so good. I’ll be the first to admit that vegetable juice isn’t the best tasting drink, but you do get a ton of vegetables at once, and who ever gets enough greens anyway? We always try to buy organic when juicing. For everyone out there who isn’t jazzed about the idea of drinking raw vegetables, you aren’t alone! I like to drink mine quickly with ice because it helps dull the flavour.
Zucchini Spiralizer
Stephanie’s vegan friend made her a zucchini spaghetti meal once and she loved it… so guess what showed up with the UPS delivery guy 2 weeks later? The spiralizer is simple to use and it makes a really cool curly noodle. It’ll never replace spaghetti but hey, it does the job!
I quickly fry the zucchini and then make it with meat sauce (because I’m still a carnivore) and it turns out pretty good. We lower our carb intake and save the pasta for a special occasion.
So there’s a list of the food prep appliances we use the most but I’m sure there’s many more. If you have any other ideas I’d love to hear!
